Maria Menounos
Maria was helping her mother suffering from the stage 4 brain cancer. It was discovered that she was suffering from an extremely serious health condition. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. "I'd felt lightheaded when I was on set and had headaches" the actress tells PEOPLE in its exclusive front page story. My speech was becoming slurred, and I had difficulty comprehending the teleprompter. The results of an MRI discovered that Menounos had a golf-ball-size meningioma brain tumor, which was pressing the facial nerves. Menounos scheduled an appointment with her mother's doctor, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black to schedule surgery for June 8-her 39th birthday. Menounos claims that Dr. Black said, "I am 98 percent certain it is benign, but we'll never know until we are in there," After the lengthy surgery lasting about 7 hours Dr. Black was able to get rid of 99.9 percent of the tumour. The result was not cancerous. According to Dr. Black, there is a 6-7 percent chance that the cancer will come back. "But I'll take the odds any day." Menounos has been home since a six-day stay in hospital. The patient is recovering and enjoying the company of Litsa, her mother. Litsa's latest MRI confirms that she's healthy and free from cancer.
